With Prepay, members purchase electricity before they use it. It allows members to say:
- Goodbye to Deposits
- Goodbye to Late fees
- Goodbye to Disconnect fees
- Goodbye to Reconnect fees
Understanding Prepay Service
Prepay service is a pay-as-you-go plan that allows you to pay when you want, in the amounts you want.
You prepay by putting money on your account, the amount of electric that you use is then subtracted from your balance each day. If your balance goes below an amount equal to 3 days of service, or a dollar amount of your choosing, you will be notified by Clark Energy that your balance is getting low. If you let your balance reach $0, then your account will be discon-nected. Once a credit balance of $10 is on your account, you will be automatically reconnected. You can make payments on your account at any time, and if you do get disconnected on Prepay, there are no fees for being reconnected. Prepay works just like a tank of gas for your car would; you fill up your tank and throughout the week you use the tank of gas. When your tank gets low, you pay to fill your tank back up.
Prepay has benefits that may appeal to many individuals, listed below are some of those benefits:
- Disconnect/Reconnect Fees. With Prepay you will pay no fees if you are disconnected or when you are reconnected.
- No Penalty. On Prepay you don’t have to worry about being charged a penalty on a late bill.
- Daily Monitoring of Usage. On Prepay you will know each day how much electricity you are using and how much money you have left on your account. No more waiting until the beginning of the month to see how big your bill will be--you can monitor your usage daily.
- You Are in Control. With Prepay you pay when you want and pay what you want (minimum payments of $10.)
- Knowledge is Power. With Prepay you can see your daily usage and adjust your habits accordingly. The more information you have on your usage, the more proactive you can be on making changes to reduce the amount of electricity you use.
- No Deposit Required. With Prepay you are not required to have a deposit. Existing accounts with deposits who wish to switch to Prepay will have the deposit applied to their balance and the remaining credited to their Prepay account.
Most residential customers of Clark Energy qualify for Prepay service. Accounts with three-phase service, greater than a 200-amp service or an account with lifesaving medical equipment will not qualify. Clark Energy also requires members on Prepay to be able to receive either text or email notifications.
- Members are responsible for making Clark Energy aware of any changes to the notification information on their account.
- The minimum payment on Prepay accounts is $10, there is no restriction on the number of payments you may make.
- Service can be disconnected if your account balance is $0 regardless of temperature or weather conditions. If your service is disconnected, you must pay any balance plus an additional $10 to have service reconnected.
- Prepay account members are notified daily, by the notification method selected by member, when the balance on their account is below the set notification amount. The daily notifications are the only notice a member will receive.
- Financial Assistance is credited to Prepay accounts once the agency gives Clark Energy a promise to pay voucher.
- Prepay accounts do not receive a monthly paper bill. Members can check balances in SmartHub or call the office for account information.
- In addition to the monthly facility charge, there is a $5 monthly Prepay service fee.
